Today, I want to tell you about a special tradition in our country called “Bayanihan.”
Bayanihan is a word that means people helping each other as a community.
In the Philippines, we have a saying: “No man is an island.”
That means we are not meant to do everything alone; we are stronger when we work together.

今日は、私の国のスペシャルな伝統「バヤニハン」についてお話しようと思います。
バヤニハンという言葉は仲間内でお互いを助け合うという意味を持っています。
フィリピンでは「誰もひとりぼっちの島ではない」ということわざがあります。
すべてを一人で行なうことなく、なにかをするときは一緒に行なうことで、より強固なものになるという意味です。
It’s like having a big family that helps and cares for one another.
One famous way we show Bayanihan is when a family needs to move to a new house. In our country, we have traditional houses made of bamboo called “bahay kubo.”
When a family needs to move their bahay kubo to another place, the whole community comes to help.
それはお互いをケアし合うために大きな家族であるようなもの。
バヤニハンを示す有名な方法としては、新しい家に引っ越すとき。私の国では、竹で作られた「バハイクーボ」と呼ばれる伝統的な家があって、バハイクーボから他の場所に引っ越すとき、その地区の人たちがみんな集まって手伝ってくれるの。
Everyone works together, lifting the house on their shoulders and walking together to the new location.
It may sound heavy and hard, but with so many hands helping, the load becomes lighter, and we have fun doing it!
みんないっしょになって片づけたり、家を肩に担いで新しい場所までいっしょに歩いていきます。
めちゃくちゃ重たそうだし大変そうでしょ？でもたくさん人手があると軽いし、それがとても楽しく感じられるの。
When there’s a typhoon or flood, our community comes together to help those who are affected.
We share food, blankets, and help rebuild houses.
It feels good to know that we can rely on each other in difficult times.
もし台風や洪水がおきたら、その地域の人たちはいっしょになって被害を受けた人たちを手助けします。
食べ物や毛布も分け与えるし、家の再築も。
Even in school, we practice Bayanihan.
If someone doesn’t understand a lesson, we help them.
We share our knowledge and work as a team to solve problems.
It’s not about being the best; it’s about supporting one another to do our best.
学校の場でも、バヤニハンの練習ができるんですよ。
もし誰かが授業でわからないところがあればお互い助けるし、知識やお当番のお仕事も問題を解決していくチームのようにシェアするよ。
一番になるためじゃなくて、支え合って最善策を考えるの。
Bayanihan is a beautiful part of being Filipino.
It makes me proud of my country and my community.
I love seeing people come together to help each other.
It’s like a big family picnic or a party where everyone is happy and laughing.
バヤニハンはフィリピン人であることの美しい誇りの一つ。
自国や地域を誇り高く思わせてくれる。
お互いを助け合う精神がとっても好きです。
それはまるで、みんなハッピーで笑顔になれる、大家族のピクニックやパーティをしているみたい。
I hope Bayanihan never goes away.
It’s something that makes us special and different from other places.
I want to keep practicing Bayanihan and show it to other people too.
Maybe someday, the whole world will learn from us and become one big Bayanihan family!
