…文化も教えちゃっています！

When our students sneeze, did you know we say ‘Bless you’?
生徒さんがくしゃみする後、私たちは「ブレス・ユー」と言うって知っていましたか？

It’s a Christian tradition from long ago but we still say it.
昔からキリスト教の伝統だけど、今でも使うんですよ！

It’s strange for me to not hear ‘Bless you’ after I sneeze…
くしゃみの後、「ブレス・ユー」って言われないと、変な感じがします…。

Another thing the students notice is that we don’t draw a circle for a correct answer.
生徒たちについてもう一つの気付いたことは、私たちはテストなどで答えが合っているとき、○は付けません！

We use a tick!
チェックマーク✓をつけます！

When I first did this with the students, they thought they had got the answer wrong!
初めて私がチェックマークをつけた時、生徒さんたちは「間違ってるんだ…」と思ってしまったみたい！

It was a culture clash.
カルチャーショックでしたね。

Last month, the kindergarten kids learnt ‘crab’.
それから、先月幼稚園の子供たちは「かに」を習いました。

But when I did my impression of a crab, they told me I was wrong.
でも私がかにの真似をした時、「イブ、NO！NO！違う！」と言われました。

“Ah!” I said. “In Japan, you do a crab impression like this right?”
「あっ！日本ではかにの真似はこんな感じだよね？」って。

“But in England and other English-speaking countries, we do it like this!”
「でも、イギリスなどの英語圏の国では、こんな感じだよ！！」

“Ohhhhhhhhh!” they said.
でも生徒さんたちは「ええええええええ？！」だって！

Cultural differences are interesting, right?
文化の違いって面白いね！
